Care Guide
A Berenford frame is made to be lived with for years, and to improve with time. A little care keeps the acetate, the hinges and the lenses at their best.
Acetate is a noble, natural material. Because of this it can react to heat and may move slightly over time. This is normal, and it is also why acetate is so flexible, comfortable and easy to adjust.
Adjusting Your Frame at Home
If your Berenford frame becomes slightly crooked, or if you simply want to show your friends how resistant and flexible it is, you can carefully reshape it at home.
- Hold the frame under warm running water for about two minutes.
- Place the frame on a flat table.
- Hold the right temple gently while you adjust the left temple.
- Then do the opposite: hold the left temple and adjust the right.
- Move slowly and gently until the frame returns to the shape you want.
Important: use warm water, never boiling water. Move the acetate gently and never force the frame. For major adjustments, we always recommend visiting an optician.
After the Sea
If you wear your Berenford sunglasses at the beach or in the sea, treat them as you would a beautiful watch. After contact with salt water, rinse them with fresh water and dry them carefully with a soft cloth. This simple ritual helps the frame, hinges and lenses last for many years.
The Materials
Every Berenford frame is cut from Mazzucchelli acetate, with German OBE hinges and Zeiss CR39 lenses; a few special models carry vintage American aviation lenses. Cared for well, a Berenford is built to last far beyond a single season, an object meant to be kept, and passed on.
Berenford is not a brand. It is a way of life.
